Chandelier

Our beautiful brass chandelier has twelve lights on two levels. It is dated 1756 and inscribed with the wardens names “John Starkie, Richard Bulcock, George Driver and Bernard Starkie”.

When the chandelier was erected it would have used 12 candles and been the main light in the church. It would have had to be lowered and raised to light the candles. If you look carefully on the beam above the chandelier and to the left just by the balcony wall you will see the remains of the lifting mechanism. The chandelier was electrified after electricity was supplied to Newchurch Village perhaps as late as 1930’s.
