Christening or Baptism – the names are interchangeable – is a wonderful way to celebrate new life. At St Mary’s we are pleased to share in your joy. Baptism is an opportunity to respond to God’s loving fatherhood by wanting your child to grow up in the knowledge of God’s love and to become part of the church.
So how do you go about having your child christened?
If you are not a regular church-goer we would usually invite you to come along to a service to get a feel for the church. Then the vicar would arrange a time when he can visit you in your home to talk about the service, and the commitment you are making. It is a time when the date can be arranged and any questions you may have can be answered.
If you do not live in the parish, it may still be possible to have your child christened at St Mary’s.
Christenings usually take place at our main service on Sundays at 9.30am. There is no fee, but you may like to make a donation.
If you do not feel ready to make the commitment involved in having your child christened, we can offer you a service of naming and thanksgiving.
